Fresno State claimed fifth place in the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga.


The No. 19 Bulldogs’ only loss came against No. 21 Florida State on Saturday, 2-0.


Earlier in the day, the Bulldogs beat No. 10 LSU 5-2 behind two home runs and a five-hitter from pitcher Jamie Southern.


Southern earned the tournament’s MVP honors and junior shortstop Christina Clark earned all-tournament honors.

 

Equestrian
Fresno State finished in third place in English at the Cal Poly Invitational on Sunday.


It was the Bulldogs’ lowest finish so far this season.


Shannon Ragsdale was the only Bulldogs athlete to earn a first-place finish, winning the Novice Flat competition.


Stacey McCalmont got second in the Beginning Walk/Trot/Canter.


Fresno State hosts South Carolina on March 11 in its next action.

 

Women’s Tennis
Fadzai Masiyazi pulled off a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles to clinch No. 21 Fresno State’s victory over No. 30 New Mexico on Sunday at the UNLV Invitational.


Fresno State (3-3) won the match 4-3 to claim third place in the tournament.


The Bulldogs host No. 47 Sacramento State on Saturday at noon. Fresno State has won 15 straight matches at the Wathens Tennis Center.
