In light of last night’s scooter-vehicle collision, Derek Brantley, Fresno State’s parking and transportation manager, told The Collegian some safety tips.
“Scooters are quiet, so it’s important not to assume others can hear you,” Brantley said.
He said that scooters are treated like vehicles on Shaw Avenue and therefore must also follow California Vehicle Code regulations.
“[Riders must] obey traffic laws just like anyone else on the road,” Brantley said.
He explained that it’s important for drivers to always be alert for people on scooters, especially at night and near intersections, such as the one at Shaw and Maple avenues.
“Slow down, give scooter riders plenty of space and always check for them before turning or opening your door,” Brantley said.
