The Fresno State women’s basketball team opens up its final Mountain West Conference season against the San Diego State Aztecs at the Save Mart Center.
In the non-conference, the Bulldogs went 4-1 at home and 6-5 overall to open up Head Coach Ryan McCarthy’s first season.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 19-point victory over the Chicago State Cougars that saw freshman Ava Marr score a career-high 20 points, with six made 3-pointers. Guard Danae Powell added 15 points, seven assists and three steals.
The Bulldogs will be without their second-leading scorer, Ashlyn Rean, as she recovers from a lower-body injury.
The Aztecs come into Mountain West play at 6-3 on the season and winners of their last two games against the Pacific Tigers and Kansas State Wildcats. The Aztecs have three players averaging double-digit points, with Naomi Panganiban leading the Aztecs with 12.7 points per game.
In preseason rankings, the Bulldogs were picked to finish ninth out of 12 teams. The Aztecs were picked to finish second, and received three first place votes.
The Bulldogs will look to beat the Aztecs for the first time since 2021. Tip off for Mountain West play is set for 6:30 p.m.
