Fresno State will host the 77th commemoration of Human Rights Day on Dec. 10, bringing students, faculty and community members together to honor the values outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Organized by the Human Rights Coalition of the Central Valley, the evening will include a community reading of all 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a tradition meant to reaffirm global commitments to dignity, equality and justice.
The program will feature a keynote address by Abdi Soltani, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California, who will speak on the state of civil liberties and ongoing human rights challenges. Aideed Medina, the Fresno poet laureate, will perform a poetry reading.
The event is free and open to the public from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Satellite Student Union.
