National Agriculture Week is coming up and the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology is hosting events all week for students.
National Ag Week differs every year but it always acts as a way to acknowledge the agriculture industry and to recognize its impact on our country and economy. Ag Week also allows people to give thanks to all of the individuals working in agriculture everyday.
“It’s going to be a week full of promoting agriculture, exploring opportunities and celebrating this amazing industry,” said Jordan College Associated Students, Inc. Senator Maris Prado on Instagram.
Agriculture is vital to the Central Valley, with Fresno County being the No. 1 county in agriculture sales in California. Fresno County is joined by Tulare, Kern and Merced county to make up some of the other entries for the top 10 counties for agriculture sales in California.
This year Ag Week is from March 16-22, with National Ag Day landing on March 18.
The Jordan College and Associates Students, Inc. are partnering to host a number of free student events to celebrate Ag Week and get people excited about agriculture.
Monday will be a “Rope and Re-hydrate” event with free beverages and roping activities. Tuesday’s event will be games of corn hole with free hot-dogs and Wednesday you will be able to customize your own ear tag. Thursday will round out their Ag Week celebrations with a guest speaker and free ice cream.
The end of the week will also have a giveaway that students can enter by earning tickets through participating in the other events throughout the week.
All of these events will be free and open to students of all majors. They will all be on the east side of the Ag Science building with most of the events being from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Thursday event will be from 6-7 p.m.
