Fresno State’s problems go beyond the state

One week ago today, Fresno State President John Welty explained to the university community that, unless Californians vote to raise taxes on themselves come November, Fresno State would have to cut $11 million from its budget. From this would come tuition increases, layoffs, class reductions, enrollment limits and more.

Following the trend of the last few years, Fresno State is implementing yet another budget cut for the 2011-12 fiscal year, with students and teachers seeing the largest effects. According to associate vice president of financial affairs Clint Moffitt, Fresno State’s budget is being cut by just less than $6 million for the fiscal year.

Choosing to attend which college is hard enough. Between location, money, friends, degree programs and campus life, things can start to get a little complicated when it comes down to making a decision. When the option of a private university versus a public college is thrown into the mix, it can create an even greater whirlwind of dilemmas.
