Three sisters who lived more than 150 years ago in a remote parsonage in the United Kingdom remain to this day the most prolific siblings in English literature and they endure as an inspiration to countless authors, playwrights and filmmakers.
When an actor has packed on an extra 30 pounds or an actress has shaved her head for a leading role, some may rationalize the action by quoting the amount of money they will be getting for it. But how do we rationalize it for a local high school’s play?
Near the corner of McKinley and Wishon Avenues, a small ensemble of Fresno State students gathered for the school’s first ever theatrical production. It was 1912, and the Fresno State Normal School’s Dramatic Club was to perform its first play.
Starting this month, Fresno State’s African-American Theatre will perform a play that director Thomas-Whit Ellis said is “one of the most important works underscoring the collective voice of African-American women.”
