During Grammy week, VDRFOAs go forgotten

Darrell Copeland III: Valentine’s Day — quick Jeff, what comes to your mind?
Jeff Christian: Beyoncé on the cover of Sports Illustrated?
DC3: I’m not touching that one, you perve. Although SI does have award-winning photography. I’m like anyone else, I read SI swimsuit edition for the articles.
JC: Award-winning photography with words. Wait a second, are there words? I’ll just have to take your word for it.
Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I do think we should hand out valentines to some of our deserving Fresno State talents. Our valentines may not be as fancy or decorative and it doesn’t come with any candy, but it does have, what do you call it DC3 — oh yeah, words. And possibly a high-five (to be arranged at a later time).
DC3: What’s with you and words? Don’t you know that a picture tells a thousand of them? Anyway, let’s tell these people who earned themselves an award from the first edition of the Darrell and Jeff’s Valentine’s Day Card Awards Column. Man, are you shallow.
JC: Well DC3, the shallow end of the pool is much safer.
DC3: *Silence*
JC: Our first Valentine’s Day Recognition for Outstanding Achievement [VDRFOA] (yeah, you can’t have an award without having a ridiculously long and annoying acronym to accompany it), goes to …
DC3: Sorry for being so quiet, I just really didn’t have a response for that “much safer” comment. OK, as you were saying, the VDRFOA goes to — Kelsi Bond. I think that we can both agree that her hard work and dedication as the Fresno State women’s basketball operations coordinator has made the Bulldogs a team that really needs to be reckoned with, at least at home.
JC: So that’s why you volunteered to cover all the women’s basketball games. DC3, you trickster you.
DC3: Wait a minute, Jeff, you are so superficial, man. I have a lot of respect for people with so much responsibility and I find it very appropriate that the first recipient will be able to keep track of each award given out. Plus, you cover the men’s games. What’s not fair about that?
JC: I see your point, but the VDRFOAs have only just begun. Our second award goes to a dynamic duo — the men’s and women’s track and field teams. Most students probably couldn’t name a player off either team, but this year’s team is talented, deep and is going to compete for a WAC championship.
DC3: Plus, they actually want to run. They get some love for that.
JC: Oh, would you look at the time, it looks like our first edition is gonna be cut short, but a success it was. Thanks for joining us.
