The One-Finger Salute

Thumbs up to the latest in the Chestnut closure saga: a “temporary access road” running through the farm land off of Barstow. We love the idea of taking the scenic route to class, but we suspect the effort might have been better directed at just reopening Chestnut.

Thumbs up to National Condom Awareness Day. There really isn’t much to explain: with bright colors and free condoms, it’s like the neon, latex Christmas that you can only wish you’d heard Bing Crosby sing about.

Thumbs down to the lame phrases that adorn Conversation Hearts, particularly with this year’s animal-themed candies. Among things that, indeed, hinder conversation, “UR A TIGER” probably tops the list.

Thumbs down to “Cinderella 3,” which released on DVD last week. In fact, thumbs down to “Cinderella 2” and the Disney producers who fail to understand that when you say “happily ever after,” there isn’t a damn thing left to talk about.

Thumbs up to the men’s basketball team, who defeated New Mexico State Aggies Saturday night 75-69 — it’s nice to have a team to cheer for that can actually win a few games.
