San Jose State retreated to their dugout empty-handed on Sunday as Junior pitcher Andy Underwood shut the Spartans down and out. It took Underwood just 95 pitches to pick up his seventh win of the season. Underwood walked one Spartan, and struck out seven more, while just four were able to make hits.

San Jose’s pitcher, Josh Amberson also kept the Bulldogs scoreless for the first part of the game.

Amberson was no match for Underwood, as he struck out two batters in each of his five innings.

Underwood used only six pitches to finish off the first inning.

Bulldog Beau Mills opened up the fourth inning with a right field home run that went beyond the stadium.

Sophomore Steve Susdorf collected one of his three hits for the day in the inning and was brought home by Brian Lapin’s RBI triple.

In the fifth inning the Bulldogs scored two more in the fifth. Nick Moresi had a one out single to left field.

After striking out the next batter, the Spartans intentionally walked Beau Mills which brought them to Kent Sakamoto. Sakamoto brought home Moresi and Susdorf put the Bulldogs ahead 4-0.

This was the first complete shutout for a Bulldog pitcher since Matt Garza’s last season shut out against Hawai’i.

Fresno State will take a break from conference play with its series Dallas Baptist, Thursday. The Patriots are an Independent team and bring a 27-15 record into the series after sweeping Hawaii-Hilo this weekend.
