Women's basketball dominates Spartans
Staff Reports
The Collegian
And the dominance continues.
This time, the victim was San Jose State, a team that only made five field goals in the second half to lose to Fresno State 63-41 at the Event Center on Saturday night.
The win improves the Bulldogs to an 18-5 overall record. The victory is also the 25th for interim head coach Adrian Wiggins.
The Bulldogs had a 30-25 halftime lead, but it was their defense that kept the Spartans (10-11, 5-5 WAC) out of the game, not allowing San Jose State to pass the 40-point mark until Brittany Imaku’s made a lay-up with two seconds left.
Chantella Perera had a game-high 20 points by hitting four three-pointers, while Mirenda Swearengin added 10 to go with three steals, three rebounds and one block. And Tierre Wilson came off the bench to score 14 points, grab three rebounds and get three steals.
But there was some glimmer of hope for the Spartans, who had much-needed help from forward duo Amber Jackson and Lamisha Augustine, who scored 15 and 17 points, respectively.
