Seniors bid farewell to Bulldog Stadium
Class finished at home against Louisiana Tech after rollercoaster careers of highs and lows
Staff Reports
The Collegian
This class has endured the highs and lows of a program trying to establish itself and prove to the country it is no longer just a mid-major team.
Through 30-plus national television appearances and three consecutive bowl victories over Georgia Tech, UCLA and Virginia, this senior group has proven to be essential to the program’s successes during the past five years.
Paul Pinegar has the opportunity to do few quarterbacks have been able to do: win four consecutive bowls. The Bulldogs will travel to Memphis, Tenn. to compete in the Liberty Bowl.
Garrett McIntyre was the WAC’s preseason defensive player of the year and Wendell Mathis has already exceeded 1,000 rushing yards this season.
The Bulldogs stepped into the national spotlight this year by taking on USC and almost toppling the No. 1 team before losing 42-50.
The seniors will be honored today before their last home game against Louisiana Tech.
The Bulldogs have a shot at avenging their 21-28 loss against LA Tech last year. Tech spoiled a perfect 3-0 start for the Bulldogs last season but Fresno State is determined to keep them from spoiling this year’s goal: winning a WAC championship.
With a victory, the Bulldogs can secure a piece of the WAC title, something that no senior class has done since 1999.
