Men’s basketball falls in Buffalo
Dwight O’Neil stepped up for Fresno State, scoring a team-high 18 points and Donovan Morris contributed 15 but that wasn’t enough to keep the Bulldogs from losing to Buffalo (New York) 85-69.
Kevin Bell led the Bulldogs with 11 assists, the first time a player has done that since Shantay Legan did in 2004.
From the start of the game, Buffalo controlled the tempo of the game, going on an 11-0 run. Fresno State’s first points were scored by O’Neil on a three-pointer.
The Bulldogs trailed by eight at halftime and made adjustments to open the second half with a 17-11 run and cut the lead 47-45. But the Bulls answered back with a 19-3 run and kept a double-digit lead until the final buzzer. In the final three and a half minutes, Buffalo converted all 10 of its free throw attempts. The Bulls shot 96 percent of their free throws, converting 24 of 25.
Fresno State continues its longest road trip of the year when it travels to Iowa State (4-1) on Saturday. It is the second meeting between the two teams.
