Three Fresno State basketball players garnered All-Western Athletic Conference honors when the conference announced its award winners Sunday.

Junior forward Amy Parrish of the women’s team was named to the All-WAC first team. Parrish, from Hanford by way of Reedley College, led the Bulldogs with 13.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Her 16.4 points per game in WAC contests was good enough for third in the conference.

Joining Parrish on the first team are Tulsa’s Jillian Robbins; WAC player of the year Tasha Crain, from Louisiana Tech; San Jose State’s Lamisha Augustine, a graduate of Fresno’s Roosevelt High; and Southern Mehodist’s Janeille Dodds.

The Bulldogs begin competition in this week’s WAC tournament in Reno, Nev. on Wednesday, when they take on Dodds and SMU.

For the men, senior center Mustafa Al-Sayyad was named to the All-WAC second team and the all-defensive team, and sophomore guard Ja’Vance Coleman garnered all-newcomer team honors.

Al-Sayyad averaged 11.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He also led the WAC with 1.8 blocked shots per game.

Coleman led the Bulldogs with 16.3 points per game, which placed him in the WAC’s top 10 all season. He also had 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

Nevada swept the major conference awards, as sophomore Nick Fazekas was named player of the year, Ramon Sessions was freshman of the year, and Mark Fox was named the conference’s top coach.

The Bulldogs open WAC tournament play Thursday in Reno against first team selection Paul Millsap, the nation’s leading rebounder, and Louisiana Tech.
