Health Fair sets up shop at dining hallStudents who go to the Residence Dining Hall today won’t find the usual tables and hear chatter among students eating their lunches. Instead, they will hear about things such as the proper use of backpacks, over the counter pain medications, skin cancer and alcohol abuse, among other health-related topics. The annual Health Fair, which will focus on student lifestyles, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the RDH and will feature more than 25 booths on health related issues. Fresno State student teams developed most of these booths. In particular, health science majors will show booths as class projects. Stephanie Morris, a Registered Dietician in the Health Center and one of the coordinators, said the event will give students important information on many health related topics. “ It is a great opportunity for people to get health information and have fun at the same time,” Morris said. One booth displayed by an organization outside of Fresno State called West Care will feature screening for alcoholism. Students who fill out evaluations at the booths will be eligible to receive prizes from Suncare products. On top of this, there will be drawings for various items donated to the health fair. “ We have been given a bicycle, yoga and pilates kits, and many other great prizes to give away,” Morris said. “It is going to be fun and informative.” — Ashley Lowe |
