For the third straight year, the Fresno State softball team had three players named to the All-Mountain West team.
Senior pitcher Lauryn Carranco was named to the conference First Team in her first and only year with the Bulldogs. Carranco led the Mountain West Conference with a 16-win season, 20 complete games,165 innings pitched, four shutouts and 109 strikeouts, the second-most in the conference.
One of Carranco’s best performances came against the University of California, San Diego Tritons on Feb. 27 in Stockton, California. Carranco threw her first career no-hitter by striking out 12 batters and allowing just three walks in the Bulldogs’ 4-0 win.
Two more Bulldogs etched their names on the All-Conference team as senior infielders Jamie Hicks and Emma Martinez were named to the Second Team.
The two seniors ranked either first or second on the team in multiple statistical categories.
Hicks led the team with a .356 batting average, 30 runs batted in and 52 hits on the season. Despite having the most at-bats on the team, 146 across her 46 games started, she struck out only four times.
Martinez owned a team-leading .970 OPS, to go along with 10 doubles and 77 total bases.
Alyssa Ramirez and Rylee Bocchini were given an All-Mountain West honorable mention.
Ramirez batted .292 on the year and totalled the second-most RBIs for the ‘Dogs with 25. But she didn’t just provide a spark with her bat. She also led the team with a 2.80 ERA to go along with a 3-4 record.
As for Bocchini, the sophomore saw plenty of action following a freshman campaign where she played in just 11 games. She started 40 games for the Bulldogs and finished with a .284 batting average and drove in 16 runs.
The team’s quest for a final Mountain West Championship ended on May 6 at the hands of the No. 4-seeded New Mexico Lobos. The Bulldogs lost 7-2, officially ending Fresno State’s time in the conference.
