Easter is one of the most widely celebrated holidays in the world, and for Christians, including the Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox denominations, it could be considered the most significant holiday.
Also known as Resurrection Sunday, Easter honors and commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which happened three days after his death on the cross. Due to the day’s religious significance, Lent, the period leading up to Easter, is a season of self-denial and spiritual growth that a lot of Christians take part in.Â
In reflection of Christ’s 40 days spent in the wilderness, Christians who participate in Lent go from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, partaking in fasting, prayer and repentance, with each individual’s journey unique among one another.Â
Almost all churches will hold service on Resurrection Sunday and sometimes other special services throughout the week, like on Good Friday and Holy Saturday, leading up to Sunday.Â
Easter is also widely celebrated as a fun springtime holiday with festivities and traditions to share with family and friends. Some visit the Easter Bunny, do Easter egg hunts, prepare meals special to their family and find local events to attend.
