Earth Day is April 22, and the Sustainability Club at Fresno State is hosting a variety of activities to celebrate. The event will take place on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Memorial Gardens.
Activities will include:
- Plant Hub: Hosted by California Climate Action Corps Fellows, where students will take cuttings from larger plants to plant in pots.Â
- Screen Printing: Students can bring clothing items and have the Earth Day logo screen printed onto their items.
- Love Letters to the Earth: Express your gratitude for the environment by writing a love letter to the Earth.
- Clothing Repair Station: Salvage torn clothes by bringing them to this event and a service-learning student will repair them.
- Pop-up Thrift Store: Students can shop donated items for free. Donations are also being accepted.Â
- Art Displays: Environmentally themed art will be displayed.
- Water Challenge: A blind taste test between tap and bottled water to promote reducing plastic.
- Student Clubs and Local Organizations: Environmentally focused student clubs and local organizations will promote their groups and provide information.Â
- Photo Booths: Victor E. Bulldog will be available at photo backdrops from noon to 1 p.m.
The first Earth Day was held in 1970 in protest of the 1969 Santa Barbara oil spill. College students were at the head of this movement. The Fresno State Sustainability Club hosts this annual event for students to celebrate Earth Day.
