All motorized vehicles will be banned on campus effective on the first day of the Fall 2026 semester, Aug. 19, according to Matt Hawkins, vice president for administration and chief financial officer.
The news was sent through a university-wide Campus Communications email on Friday afternoon.
“After convening a cross-campus committee that carefully reviewed campus safety data and incident reports, as well as actions taken by peer institutions, the university is updating our existing Buildings and Grounds policy to help reduce these risks and maintain a safe, accessible environment for all,” Hawkins said in the email.
Hawkins said the ban includes motorized scooters, electric bicycles, mopeds, motorized skateboards and segway-style devices.
Any use of motorized vehicles on campus, beginning Aug. 19, will be classified as a violation of student conduct, according to Hawkins.
“Any such device left unattended will be considered abandoned and may be impounded and transferred to Lost and Found,” Hawkins said.
Hawkins also said the university is in the process of creating dedicated storage for motorized vehicles along the campus perimeter for those who use them to get to campus.
He said that these storage spaces will be near Bulldog Express stops, and encouraged students to utilize the shuttle.
There will be an informational Zoom session on May 6 from 10-11 a.m. for more information.
