Kerry Magro, an anti-bullying speaker and autism consultant on the award-winning show, “Love on the Spectrum,” will speak in the Resnick Student Union Room 107 on Thursday.
Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) is partnering with the Student Health and Counseling Center to host Magro. There will be two sessions focusing on autism awareness and inclusive learning practices, according to Jennie Johnson, director of the SSD.
“As an autistic self-advocate and nationally recognized speaker on neurodiversity and universal design learning, he brings both lived experience and professional expertise to conversations that matter deeply in higher education,” Johnson said.
The first session, titled “Autism Has No Look: Putting a Spotlight on the Spectrum,” will be open to everyone and will take place at 10:30 a.m. The second session, which is meant for faculty, is titled “Teaching the Way Our Students Learn: Curriculum Strategies and Inclusion Practices,” and will start at 2 p.m.
Magro was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified, a form of autism, when he was 4 years old. After overcoming many challenges early in life, he now travels the country, sharing his story and raising awareness about autism.
Any faculty interested in attending the “Teaching the Way Our Students Learn: Curriculum Strategies and Inclusion Practices” session can register through the SumTotal portal.
