LAS VEGAS — The No. 7 seed Fresno State women’s basketball team faces the No. 2 seed University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the quarterfinal round of the Mountain West Tournament.
The Rebels received a first-round bye for being a top-four seed.
The Bulldogs played the Rebels twice in the regular season, dropping both games by double-digit margins. A lack of depth hurt the ‘Dogs in the second matchup, as they were only able to dress eight players.
The winner of the quarterfinal match will play the winner of the Grand Canyon University and Colorado State University quarterfinal.
The ‘Dogs were forced to call an early timeout after an 8-0 run by the Rebels to start the game. The Rebels extended their lead to 15 at one point in the first quarter due to a 13-0 run.
The Rebels shot 5-of-7 from 3-point range in the first quarter and 8-of-12 in the first half.
Ryan McCarthy called three of his four timeouts in the first half to calm the momentum.
Emilia Long sank her first field goal in the third quarter.
The Rebels continued to shoot lights-out from beyond the arc and from the field in the third quarter. They grew their lead to as many as 22.
Fresno native Meadow Roland led all scorers with 22 points.
The Bulldogs end their Mountain West tenure. The program will move to the Pac-12, along with Utah State, San Diego State, Colorado State, Oregon State, Washington State, Texas State and Gonzaga.
