The ninth annual Day of Giving at Fresno State is taking place today, inviting alumni, students and supporters to give back during a 24-hour event supporting student success and campus initiatives.
The event celebrates the areas of Fresno State that matter most to the Bulldog community, with every gift helping support programs across campus.
“Day of Giving is a special opportunity for our community to come together and invest in the future of Fresno State students in the MCJ Department,” said James Boren, executive director of the Institute for Media and Public Trust at Fresno State and an adjunct faculty member in the Media, Communications and Journalism Department.
Boren said donations help provide opportunities for careers in media, communications and journalism.
“Donations help our students attend professional conferences and workshops where they connect with industry leaders, gain hands-on training, and build the networks that launch careers,” Boren said. “These funds also allow us to purchase essential equipment used in film production, advertising and public relations campaigns, and broadcast and digital journalism projects.”
Supporters can sign up to become DOG Ambassadors and earn Fresno State swag for participating in the event. Students can also take part in the first-ever Victor E. Bulldog plushie scavenger hunt on campus.
Faith Sidlow, chair of the Media, Communications and Journalism (MCJ) Department, said the event highlights the support students receive from the Fresno community.
“For our MCJ Department, that support helps students gain real-world experience through projects like The Collegian, Fresno State Focus and other hands-on media opportunities that prepare them for their careers,” Sidlow said.
Sidlow said the event reflects how strongly people believe in Fresno State students.
“What I love most is seeing how many people believe in our students,” Sidlow said. “Every gift represents someone investing in the next generation of journalists, communicators and filmmakers.”
Two events for the MCJ department are taking place during the Day of Giving. The “Big Picture” event was held at 12 p.m. in the grassy amphitheater area next to the RSU, where organizers saw many MCJ students in attendance. An evening event will also take place from 5-8 p.m. at the M Street Gallery in Downtown Fresno.
