The Fresno State softball team returns to Margie Wright Diamond for the first time since Feb. 14 for Mountain West Conference play on March 13.
The Bulldogs competed in three tournaments in their non-conference slate, going 7-5. They also played the California State University, Bakersfield Roadrunners in a midweek match, winning 4-3 in extra innings.
After being dominated by the University of Washington at home, the ‘Dogs traveled to Cathedral City, California, to play in the Mary Nutter Classic.
The ‘Dogs matched up against the No. 2-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders. Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Red Raiders would score 12 unanswered runs, including nine in the fourth inning.
The Bulldogs’ lone win of the tournament came against the University of California, Berkeley Golden Bears. Infielder Jaime Hicks knocked out the first home run for the Bulldogs against the Golden Bears. She leads the team with three total on the season.
Pitcher Lauryn Carranco picked up her third win of the season, pitching all seven innings.
Carranco followed this performance up by throwing her first career no-hitter against the University of California, San Diego Tritons at the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, California.
She again went all seven innings, striking out 12 batters on just 83 pitches. The Tritons were only able to draw three walks on Carranco.
The ‘Dogs carried the momentum of Carranco’s no-hitter throughout the weekend as they swept all four games.
In their final series away from home, the ‘Dogs split doubleheaders against Saint Mary’s College and Santa Clara University.
Sophomore Olivia Hill leads all qualified hitters on the team with a .429 batting average and an 1.124 OPS in 16 games. In 11 starts, Carranco flexes a 2.26 ERA.
The Bulldogs enter Mountain West play with an 11-9 record. Their first series will be against an eventual Pac-12 foe, the Utah State Aggies. First pitch for the conference-opening three-game series is set for 6 p.m.

You probably should take a look again at the stat line from the Cal game. The first home run of the season in that game was from Natalie Elias, followed nearly immediately by a bomb from Tiare Westbrook. Jamie’s first home run came later.
