After taking a roughly two-month winter break from their bi-weekly meetings, the Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) senate will meet for the first time this semester on Wednesday in the Resnick Student Union (RSU) Room 207 from 4-6 p.m.
ASI election petitions also became available on Feb. 2 for those wanting to run for a position in the April elections. The packets can be found in the RSU Room 303/304.
ASI Operations Manager Frederick Lisitsa said he has high hopes for this year’s election season.
“I’m excited to see students step up and run,” Lisitsa said. “We have new systems in place, we’ve learned a lot from past cycles, and I’m confident this will be competitive and fun.”
The agenda for this week’s meeting includes the appointment of a new senator of research and innovations, a position previously held by Parker Hill, and the nomination and confirmation of a new senate secretary.
The Internal Affairs Committee has recommended the consideration of Cody Jarvis, Manjot Dhanda, Puneet Dhesi and Ralphyal Kajitani for the senator of research and innovations position.
With petitions becoming available today, the campaign season is not far behind.
“I’m looking forward to hopefully a boring but competitive election,” said ASI President Camalah Saleh. “ASI has done a lot of prep, and we are heavily focused on outreach.”
