Student Involvement at Fresno State and China Peak Mountain Resort are hosting a “Fresno State Ski & Ride Day” on Jan. 30.
The special offers for students are a $79 full-day lift and ticket, a $99 lift, ticket and rental gear or a $99 first turn package, which includes a moving carpet ticket, rentals and a two-hour group lesson.
Josh Lenert-Mondou, China Peak’s marketing supervisor, said that students don’t need to register in advance.
“They will check in at the booth outside of guest services with their school ID or class schedule, and that is where we will verify them and give them a voucher they can take to any ticket window to make their purchase,” Lenert-Mondou said.
A normal day pass at China Peak can be up to $159 without including fees, rental gear and transportation.
Shawna Blair, coordinator of major events for Student Involvement, said the discounted price is a great opportunity for students to take advantage of a whole day up on the mountain.
“There is a lodge up there, so they’re supposed to have some food specials for our students with their ID,” Blair said. “There’s discounted day passes, rentals, lessons. So it’s a great day to turn it into a whole package for the day and get up there.”
That’s not all — Student Involvement will also be providing a $20 shuttle experience for students going from campus up to the Peak, with one early morning departure and a return time of 4 p.m. when China Peak closes.
“Instead of just riding, we’re hoping to do bingo and a couple other things like that to make it a little more fun, get some prizes as they take the shuttle up to China Peak,” Blair said. “I know for a lot of students, just transportation alone is something that stops them from being able to do experiences like this.”
Eddie Dominguez, Student Involvement’s club sports organizer, said that China Peak will be tabling to provide more information about the event on Jan. 28, next to the Club and Org Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For students who are unable to attend this time, Dominguez plans to arrange two additional “Fresno State Days,” one in February and the other in March.
