ORIGINAL STORY: Lady ‘Dogs take on Rams in Saturday matinee, men’s follow with a date with Antelopes
The Fresno State men’s and women’s basketball teams are both back in the Save Mart Center for a doubleheader. The women’s team is set to play the Colorado State Rams and the men’s team will battle the Grand Canyon Antelopes.
This is the second meeting this season between the Rams and Bulldogs this season. On Jan. 3, the Bulldogs traveled to Fort Collins and lost 86-83 in a close game. Forward Avery Watkins had a career-high 25 points, shot 80% from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs’ slow third quarter, where they were outscored 31-14 was enough cushion for the Rams to pull out a win despite a late push from the ‘Dogs.
The men’s team will take on the Antelopes for the first time as Mountain West Conference opponents. The Lopes come into Fresno after defeating the top-two teams in the Mountain West, the No. 23 Utah State Aggies and the San Diego State Aztecs.
The men’s team comes in after dropping their fifth conference game to the New Mexico Lobos 83-74 on Jan. 21. Forward DeShawn Gory scored a career-high 31 points in the loss. He also reeled in 14 rebounds.
The women’s team will play first at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s team shortly after the conclusion of the women’s game.
