According to Fresno State Police Department Lt. Ruben Madrigal, the man was arrested for trespassing under Penal Code Section 626 and is not a student.
Madrigal said the man was in the Engineering East building yesterday and was told not to come back to campus for seven days, but was found in the library today.
Madrigal also said the notebook inspection was part of the officer’s routine investigation process, and he believes the man did not have bad intentions.
“I think he kind of just came to campus,” Madrigal said. “I don’t know too much about his history.”
Madrigal confirmed with The Collegian that there is no threat to Fresno State.
Fresno State Police arrested a man outside the Fresno State Library around 3 p.m. today.
Rhyen Aderhold, who works at the circulation desk in the library, saw some of the situation. He said his lead supervisor told him the individual was found asleep in a private room of the library.
“He was on the second floor in the back,” Aderhold said.
Collegian reporters witnessed police officers going through a notebook at the scene. The contents are currently unknown.
The Collegian will update as more information is revealed.
Correction: An adjustment was made at 4:27 p.m. to correct the spelling of Rhyen Aderhold’s name.
