Yulianna Avdeeva will perform at the Fresno State Concert Hall on Nov. 21 as part of the Philip Lorenz International Keyboard Concerts series, bringing her piano expertise and global recognition with her.
Avdeeva won first prize at the 2010 Chopin International Piano Competition, which is in Warsaw, Poland and is one of the most prestigious competitions worldwide. Since then, she has built a reputation internationally for her thoughtful interpretations of the pieces she performs.
She has performed across Europe, appearing at lots of different halls in Vienna, Austria; Hamburg, Germany; and Berlin.
Her Fresno State program reflects the expressive world that she is already known for. The evening will feature a selection of Preludes and Fugues from Op. 87 by Dimitri Shostakovich and 24 Preludes, Op. 28, by Frederic Chopin.
This will mark the final Keyboard Concert performance of the fall semester. It follows a series of other notable keyboardists, like Hayato Sumino, a Japanese musician who performed in the concert hall last month.
The concert hall was filled for that concert, even with seats placed on the stage floor to fit more people. The intimate experience that was felt throughout the hall. Several attendees described the concert through different words but carrying the same meaning: the performance was spectacular. One attendee said that listening to Sumino play felt like being a young child again, which speaks volumes about Sumino’s skills. Another said the performance was unique, especially since the pianist performed using two pianos simultaneously.
Through every piece, the audience stayed quiet and focused on each note that was hit. It really shows that these concerts aren’t just available to hear some world-class performers, but also opportunities to feel music intimately, unlike Spotify.
“I hope the audience will be mesmerized and inspired by listening to this world-class artist,” said Keyboard Concerts director Andreas Werz. “In addition, it brings an international feel to Fresno which you otherwise only experience in the great halls of New York, London, and Berlin.”
Andeeva’s visit promises to be a memorable close to this season of performers, and whether or not attendees show up for the Chopin piece or simply to attend a show, it will seriously captivate them.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 in the Fresno State Concert Hall. Tickets and more information are available online.
