The College of Social Science is hosting an event for Transgender Day of Remembrance. The event focuses on transgender awareness, acceptance and the transgender lives lost to murder and suicide.
The event will take place on Nov. 20 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Satellite Student Union. A resource fair will begin from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and will transition to the formal program from 6:45-8 p.m.
Ash Perez, a former BuzzFeed personality, will be the main speaker of the event. Perez identifies as a transgender male and has produced and starred in his own online T.V. series, “New Guy Tries.”
“I’m definitely excited for him to visit Fresno State because of his presence on YouTube back in the day,” said Romeo Aiyabei, a senior biology major. “I’m also a trans man so I’m excited for that too.”
Perez will also present at the “Embrace Your Truth” discussion from 1-2:30 p.m. The discussion will focus on self-love and acceptance.
Organizers of the event include Campus LGBTQ+ Programs and Services, the Cross Cultural and Gender Center (CCGC), Trans-E-Motion and the Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies Department.
Students, faculty, staff and community members are welcomed to attend the event. Pre-registration is required for those who wish to attend the event and will close registration once it reaches full capacity. Students can register for the event using this link.
Students can contact the CCGC for accommodations by calling 559.278.4435 or through their email.
