Four weeks of fantasy football have been completed, and it’s off to a weird start. Players who were taken early in the draft have been getting outplayed by late-round picks or undrafted players.
These players include wide receivers like Ladd McConkey of the Los Angeles Chargers, A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles and Brian Thomas Jr. of the Jacksonville Jaguars. These three were drafted anywhere from rounds 2-4 and they are being ranked barely in the top 50 of fantasy wide receivers.
They are being outplayed by players like Quentin Johnston, wide receiver for the Los Angeles Chargers, and Michael Pittman Jr., wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts. Johnston was a player you could’ve gotten from the waivers, while Pittman was a late-round draft pick.
Johnston is McConkey’s teammate and it looks like they switched places. Johnston is being seen as the wide receiver No. 1, while McConkey is dropping passes like Johnston did in past seasons.
Now going to quarterbacks, a big name that has outplayed a lot of other fantasy quarterbacks is Daniel Jones. In the preseason, he was fighting for a starting spot, and now he has led the Colts to a 3-1 record. He is currently a top 10 fantasy quarterback, and he was another player who was undrafted or went late.
At the tight end position, Jake Ferguson and Tyler Warren are top-five tight ends. Ferguson was also a waiver claim or late pick while Warren was being drafted in the sixth round or later.
Warren being a top-five tight end is a shocker because this is his first year in the league. Warren was just drafted 14th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. Also, he is doing better than the other tight end that was drafted in the first round. Colston Loveland, tight end for the Chicago Bears, was drafted tenth, and he is being outplayed by the tight end drafted after him. Loveland is the 58th overall tight end in fantasy according to Sleeper Fantasy.
Round 10 is weird and has a couple of running backs that look like they are back in their primes. Those two running backs are Travis Etienne Jr. from the Jaguars, and Javonte Williams from the Dallas Cowboys.
These two running backs in the previous season both looked like they had fallen off. The Jaguars had drafted two young running backs to replace Etienne. While Williams is on a new team after being on the Denver Broncos for four years.
However, Etienne Jr. has not scored lower than 11 fantasy points, and Williams has had three weeks with 17 or more fantasy points. Williams lowest total was eight points in week three, and Sleeper Fantasy has Williams as a top 10 running back and top 25 player overall.
Not only is fantasy off to a weird start, but this season has some bad injuries. Malik Nabers, wide receiver for the New York Giants, and Tyreek Hill, wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, both suffered season-ending knee injuries. Najee Harris has also been injured twice. During the offseason, he shot a firework into his eye. Then, in Week 3, Harris suffered a season-ending Achilles tear.
Also, Joe Burrow suffered turf toe, which has him out for the next three months. With Burrow out, the Cincinnati Bengals’ offense has not been the same. Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, who are wide receivers for the Bengals, have seen a drop in production since Burrow got injured.
There is still a lot of time left in the fantasy season to potentially see more craziness, or to see if it will go back to how everyone thought it was going to be.
