Winter storms are rapidly moving through the Central Valley.
Rain kicked off late yesterday evening and came crashing down in waves on Thursday.
Some parts of Fresno even received hail.
Wind gusts were up to 20 mph at some parts of the day. Currently, wind speeds in Fresno sit at 9 mph as of 7:30 p.m., The Weather Channel reports.
Fresno and neighboring counties such as Merced, Madera and parts of the Lower Sierra are under a winter weather advisory that expires tonight at 11 p.m. according to ABC30’s accuweather forecast.
Yosemite Valley is under a winter storm warning and is expected to receive 6-12 inches of heavy snow.
Several school districts canceled or delayed classes in the mountains due to the snow.
Mariposa County delayed school start times by two hours on Thursday and the county offices also delayed its openings.
The weather conditions are also preventing tourist access to Yosemite and higher elevations.
The cloud cover in Fresno is currently 50% with 71% humidity. On Friday the humidity will be in the 80s with 96% cloud coverage.
Higher humidity essentially means there is more water vapor in the air, which travels up to the clouds thus causing rainfall through saturation and condensation.
Showers are expected to resume again on Friday at 5 a.m. and continue throughout the day.
The weekend forecast is pretty clear with partly cloudy skies and the high temperature on Sunday at 70 degrees.
Temperatures will drop again and rain is expected to pick back up on Monday.
By the end of next week Fresno will be in the high 60s to low 70s with the first day of spring officially on March 20.
