Petitions to run for Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) office positions are now available to students at Fresno State.
The ASI election petitions can be found on the ASI website or at the Resnick Student Union (RSU) in Rooms 303 and 304. The deadline to submit a petition through email or in person is Feb. 21 at 5 p.m.
Students running for office must have maintained a 2.0 GPA in the Fall 2024 semester, take at least six units a semester and have completed at least one semester before the election. Students who are on academic probation are ineligible to run for office.
There are a total of 22 positions available for students to run for. Those consist of the four executive positions such as president, executive vice president, vice president of finance and vice president of external affairs. In addition, there are eight college senator positions, which represent the eight colleges on campus and 10 at-large senate positions that focus on areas of responsibility.
Students petitioning for election are required to read the ASI Election Code, which lays out the requirements for petitions and campaigning rules.
Candidates running for president, vice president of finance, executive vice president and vice president of external affairs are required to have at least 50 student signatures on the nomination petition. Candidates running for senatorial positions must have at least 25 student signatures.
Additionally, candidates who are running for the college senator position must only receive signatures from students who are declared majors of that respective college.
After petitions are submitted, candidates must attend the “all-candidates meeting” which will be held on March 5 at the RSU from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
When the meeting is over and the candidates have taken their pictures, they will be free to campaign as long as it abides by the election code.
ASI elections will begin on April 1 at 9 a.m. and end on April 3 at noon. Students will receive an email with instructions on how to vote online on the days of the election. There will also be a booth in the library available for students to cast their votes.
The Collegian reached out to multiple members of ASI for comments, but did not receive a response.
