‘Dogs in the pros: Week 8
Week 8 in the National Football League (NFL) was full of close games with many former Bulldogs seeing action.
Haener plays in his fifth game of the season
Quarterback Jake Haener finished the game for the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon after coming off the bench.
With another former Bulldog, Derek Carr, sidelined the last three weeks with an oblique injury, the Saints turned to Spencer Rattler as their starting quarterback.
After failing to score any touchdowns through nearly three quarters against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Saints then turned to Haener for the rest of the game.
Haener was unable to spark a comeback but managed to move the ball downfield in the four drives he played in. One of the drives ended in a 43-yard field goal.
He finished his day with 156 passing yards while adding 10 rushing yards. His 68.8 PFF grade ranked third on Saints during the game.
The Saints would go on to lose 26-8 to the Chargers.
If Carr is unable to return next week, the Saints will have an interesting decision to make at quarterback.
The Saints (2-6) will next face off against National Football Conference (NFC) South rival Carolina Panthers (1-7) on Sunday, Nov. 3.
Davante Adams has another quiet day for the Jets
Adams and the New York Jets lost 25-22 to the New England Patriots.
In his second game in a Jets uniform, Adams was held to just 54 yards on four catches and was once again without a touchdown. The former touchdown receptions leader from the 2020 season has not scored since Week 2.
So far, the Adams trade has not provided the immediate results the Jets were looking for.
The Jets (2-6) will look to get back on track on Halloween night against the Houston Texans (6-2) in a Thursday night matchup.
Other former ‘Dogs in the league
Mykal Walker did not record a tackle in the Washington Commanders’ thrilling win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The Commanders (6-2) will next play divisional rival New York Giants (2-6) on Sunday, Nov. 3.
Linebacker Lavelle Bailey did not record a tackle in the Denver Broncos’ commanding 28-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers. The Broncos (5-3) travel to Baltimore to face the Ravens (5-3) this Sunday to kick off November.
Running back Ronnie Rivers for the Los Angeles Rams did not see any carries in the win on Thursday night, but did see limited playing time both on offense and special teams. The Rams (3-4) will face the Seattle Seahawks (4-4) in a divisional game on Sunday, Nov. 3.
Former Bulldog running back Jordan Mims is now a free agent after recently being waived by the New Orleans Saints.
