Week 5 in the National Football League saw three former Bulldogs have their teams win.
Davante Adams still out amidst trade rumors
Raider star wide receiver Davante Adams missed his second straight game due to a hamstring issue.
With trade rumors surrounding Adams intensifying, who knows who he’ll be playing for next week. The Jets and Saints remain potential landing spots for Adams, with the talented receiver preferring to team up with a quarterback whom he is already familiar with.
With Adams on the sideline, the Raiders struggled to get anything going in a crushing 34-18 defeat to the Denver Broncos.
The Raiders (2-3) have a Sunday afternoon matchup against the (3-2) Pittsburgh Steelers in Las Vegas on October 13 at 1:05 p.m.
A night of highs and lows for Derek Carr, Saints
Carr completed 18 of 28 passes for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Saints as New Orleans fell 26-13 to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
A costly interception on the first drive of the game gave the Chiefs momentum, leading to an early 10-0 lead for the defending Super Bowl champions.
Carr responded well in the second quarter, throwing a 43-yard strike to Rashid Shaheed for a touchdown. Shaheed remains one of Derek’s favorite targets this season, leading the Saints with 338 receiving yards to go with a trio of touchdowns.
Despite the loss, the former Bulldog made some history as he exceeded 40,000 career passing yards, becoming the 25th player in NFL history to reach the feat.
The night turned sour for him with 6 minutes left on the clock, getting hit awkwardly by Chiefs safety Chamarri Conner, forcing Carr to leave the game with an oblique injury. A timetable has not been set yet.
“It wasn’t even the hit, honestly,” Carr said of his injury. “It was just when I dropped back and torqued to throw.”
Carr, who plans to have an MRI exam on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury, wanted to get back in. “I asked if there was anything we could do about it and there was not enough time,” he said.
The Saints (2-3) return home next Sunday to take on one of their division rivals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2). Kickoff is set for 10:00 p.m.
Jake Haener fills in for Carr in 4th
With Carr forced to leave the game, his backup and fellow Bulldog alum Jake Haener entered the game with a prime opportunity quarter.
Haener had mixed results, completing just two of his seven pass attempts for 17 yards. He also carried the ball twice for 11 rushing yards against the Chiefs tough defense.
With the extent of Derek Carr’s injury unknown, it is uncertain which former Bulldog will take the field next Sunday.

Rams running back Ronnie Rivers was rostered but did not get any action for Los Angeles on Sunday.
New Orleans Jordan Mims was rostered but did not see the field for the Saints on Monday evening.
