Many wonder what goes on behind the special white doors of the Oval Office, but few will ever actually get to see it first hand. Ken Khachigian did.
Chief speechwriter and long time presidential aide, Khachigian, will be holding a discussion at the Satellite Student Union on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 6:30-9 p.m.
Khachigian will cover his newly released memoir, Behind Closed Doors: In the Room with Reagan & Nixon, offering public insight into his career.
The discussion is organized and sponsored by Valley Children’s Hospital, Fresno State Office of the President, The Maddy Institute, The Armenian Studies Program and The Institute for Media and Public Trust at Fresno State. Admission into the event is free and will include a Q & A as well as a book signing.
Barlow DerMugrdechian, Berberian Coordinator for the Armenian Studies Program, played a vital role in being able to get Khachigian to come to campus and sponsor the event, as Khachigian himself is Armenian.
“I expect that people will really get an insight into the inner workings of what goes on inside the presidential office like how decisions are made and their types of messaging to the public,” DerMugrdechian said. “It’s really a good look at the personalities of these two very important presidents in American history.”
It is known Khachigian was President Reagan’s “favorite speechwriter” and “go-to” counsel. He was Nixon’s support system and right hand man as the president emerged from the Watergate scandal in 1972. He advised the presidents and assisted them with their memoirs, public speeches and interviews and with this, he is eager to share his experiences with the people.
Khachigian’s work with these two presidential giants has now been published for the world to see. The purpose of the discussion is to paint a picture for the public eye and to celebrate Khachigian and the work he has done over the course of his career.
