Week 2 of the National Football League (NFL) season saw multiple upsets as well as multiple former Bulldogs in action across the league.
Here are the key moments from the five former Bulldogs that saw the field on Sunday.
Davante Adams bounces back from a disappointing season opener
Wide receiver Davante Adams helped lead the Las Vegas Raiders in a comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens. The game was a field goal fest until the second half when both teams finally found the end zone.
The former Bulldog was the Raiders’ leading receiver on the day, ending with nine receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown. His touchdown tied the game at 23 apiece with less than four minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
Adams led a sideline meeting with his teammates prior to the drive, trying to spark some offense.
“It got … not rowdy, but I had to speak up a little bit and use some voices just to get guys going,” Adams said postgame. “Seeing everybody’s eyes, a switch flipped and it looked like … a different team. We can’t be a team where we’re just one dimensional and we’ve got the defense out there holding it down every single time.”
Adams’ touchdown catch was his 96th career touchdown which puts him as having the sixth most receiving touchdowns among players in their first 11 seasons in NFL history.
The fourth quarter comeback was capped off by a go-ahead 38-yard field goal from kicker Daniel Carlson.
The final score was 26-23 in favor of the Raiders.
Adams also gave an early case for catch of the year with an impressive toe-touching grab.
The Raiders (1-1 record) will head home to Las Vegas to face the Carolina Panthers (0-2 record) at home on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1:05 p.m.
Derek Carr continues to shine for the Saints
Quarterback Derek Carr led the New Orleans Saints to a blowout win over the Cowboys in Dallas, Texas. The Saints were in control the whole time, winning 44-19.
Carr was able to build off of last week’s performance against Carolina connecting early and often with his receivers. Carr went 11-for-16 passing, throwing 243 yards and had two touchdown passes, even adding a rushing touchdown.
Through two games, the Saints have looked dominant. Backed by efficient play from Carr, who leads the NFL in quarterback ratings, New Orleans has easily moved the ball downfield.
Carr and the (2-0 record) Saints will look to continue their early season success as they face off against the (1-1 record) Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m.
The Saints offense has been clicking, scoring on every drive so far this season.
“I promised our team, and I promised our city I would do anything,” Carr said after the game on Sunday. “I know it’s not going to be perfect, but I will do everything in my power, exhaust everything that I could even begin to imagine to try to just be better this year. So far we’ve started off good.”
Jake Haener sees limited action in blowout win
Thanks to the Saints big lead, fellow New Orleans quarterback Jake Haener was able to get in on the final drive in the Saints’ 44-19 win, though he did not have any pass attempts.
Ronnie Rivers gets one catch in blowout loss
Running back Ronnie Rivers saw limited action in the Los Angeles Rams 41-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Rivers ended the day with one reception for zero yards.
The Rams will look to bounce back next week against their division rivals. The (1-1 record) San Francisco 49ers will head to Los Angeles to face the (0-2 record) Rams on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1:25 p.m.
Mykal Walker makes a play on special teams
On Sunday, the former Bulldog linebacker, Mykal Walker, recorded one tackle on special teams against the New York Giants.
The Washington Commanders were able to get the win against their division rivals 21-18.
The (1-1 record) Commanders will head to Cincinnati to play the (0-2 record) Bengals on Monday Night Football, Sept. 23 at 5:15 p.m.
Saints running back Jordan Mims and Packers linebacker Aaron Mosby were both active but did not see any playing time.
