‘Dogs fall short to Colorado for fifth time

Fresno State was taken down by Colorado State in Moby Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 7th. This makes it their fifth straight loss against the Rams since 2021 after a final score of 69-56. 

Bulldog forward Mia Jacobs was the leading scorer with 13 points followed by forward Kylee Fox with 12. As a team, they had a 32% field goal percentage and made four 3-pointers. 

The Rams started it off in the first quarter, making the score 2-0. Jacobs responded with a layup and made the game tied at 2-2. This would be the only time the Bulldogs tied the Rams in the match. 

Jacobs would go on to lead the ‘Dogs with 7 points in the first half followed by Bulldog guard  Franka Wittenberg with 6 points. 

Colorado State took a commanding lead at the beginning of the second quarter with a 10-0 run, putting the score at 27-9. Fresno State then gained some momentum after back-to-back layups from Wittenberg. 

In the last few minutes of the second quarter, the ‘Dogs went on an 8-0 run. Jacobs started it off with a 3-pointer and Bulldog guard Taija Santa Maria ended it with a layup. Rams guard Marta Leimane finished the half with a 3-pointer. The score was 31-23. 

Both teams went back-and-forth scoring in the third quarter with Fresno State mainly capitalizing on free throws after five personal fouls from the Rams. Colorado State was more successful in field goals to close out the quarter 54-37. 

The Bulldogs made a few good runs in the final quarter with forward Maria Konstantinidou scoring first with a 3-pointer. They would make an 8-3 run before the Rams had a 7-0 run of their own. The Bulldogs were unable to come back and the game ended at 69-56.

With the loss, Fresno State is now 11-13 overall and 4-7 in Mountain West play. Its next match-up is against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas at the Save Mart Center on Feb. 10.
