The iconography and significance of the fruit stems from Samhain, a Celtic holiday that first originated with the Irish population of North America. The show takes place in the early 1980s with a group of kids experiencing a series of supernatural events at the cause of a failed science experiment. Its latest season birthed a new wave of listeners for Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” as one of the show’s protagonists finds comfort within the song.
