Former Bulldog Orlando Robinson makes it official with Miami Heat

The Heat announced on July 7 that they had signed Robinson after his NBA debut at the California Classic.

During those three games Robinson averaged 8.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.33 steals and 1.0 assists, while shooting 55.6% from the field.

While the Heat did not disclose terms of the deal in their press release, the Miami Herald reported that it was an Exhibit 10 contract.

Exhibit 10 deals often include an invitation to a training camp, do not count against the salary cap and can be converted to a two-way contract or standard one-year minimum contract before the regular season begins.

Robinson was measured as 7-foot at Fresno State, but is now listed at 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-4 wingspan. Previously a forward, the Heat signed him as a center.

Last month 22-year-old Robinson signed with the team as an undrafted free agent and it was announced he would be playing in the NBA 2K23 Summer League. He ended up making his NBA debut a week early during the California Classic on July 2-3.

The Summer League began in Robinson’s hometown of Las Vegas on July 9 against the Boston Celtics, where the Heat won 88-78. During the game Robinson recorded 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

The Heat’s Summer League coach, Malik Allen, said Robinson had a “big impact” on the game.

“I thought he played well. To be honest with you, it’s obviously early, but he’s had a really good camp and couple of games,” Allen said.

While Robinson said his role in the Heat has “completely changed” from his role at Fresno State, he said he has always been capable of playing off the ball and that the transition has been “really easy.”

“The opportunity is everything to me, and that’s all I really wanted coming out of the draft, and it’s something that I have right now. And every Summer League game, and with the Exhibit 10 deal, I have time to show what I can do,” Robinson said.
