LAS VEGAS — The No. 7 seed Fresno State women’s basketball team begins the 2026 Mountain West Tournament against the No. 10 seed University of Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack.
In the regular season, the ‘Dogs swept the Wolf Pack.
In the first meeting, the Bulldogs were led by Emilia Long as she scored 22 of the Bulldogs’ 54 points. No other player had over eight points.
The win in Reno marked Head Coach Ryan McCarthy’s first road conference victory.
The Bulldogs enter the tournament having lost their last four games.
Emilia Long and Ava Marr knocked down two 3-pointers in the first 1:49 to get the ‘Dogs out to an 8-0.
The Wolf Pack found their first field goal at the 5:11 mark of the first quarter.
Ryan McCarthy took his first timeout at the 4:19 mark after a lapse of defensive coverage.
Both teams struggled to find nylon to end the first quarter. The ‘Dogs finished 1-for-9 from the field and the Wolf Pack were held scoreless through the final 2:25.
Before halftime, Emilia Long hit a 3-pointer to end a Bulldog scoring drought.
Coming out of the break, the ‘Dogs struggled on both ends to make baskets and get stops.
Forward Avery Watkins left the action with an injury in the third quarter.
The Wolf Pack went on a 13-3 run to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to five at one point in the third quarter, while Emilia Long was held scoreless throughout the 10-minute frame. The ‘Dogs were outscored 25-18 in the quarter.
The ‘Dogs stymied the Wolf Pack attack in the fourth quarter with six timely takeaways and offensive rebounds to keep possessions alive.
The Bulldogs advance to play the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the quarterfinals.
