The Fresno State women’s cross country team captured its second title of the season over the weekend in San Francisco.

The men’s team placed sixth in the 8K San Francisco Invitational in Golden Gate Park.

Freshman Marissa McPhail ran a personal best time of 23:07 in the 6K run, finishing second in overall rankings.

“Our freshmen really ran well today,” head coach Joe Gonzales said. “It’s been awhile since someone from the team beat Zinzi Evans, so it was good to see Marissa McPhail run well today.”

Senior Evans finished in third place with a time of 23:23 while freshman Jennifer Hernandez helped the team finish with three women in the top 10 by taking 10th place.

The Bulldogs scored a total of 48 points with all five runners in the top 20 while second place San Francisco tallied 58.

The men’s team finished sixth out of seven squads, scoring 129 points. Freshman Brandon Geis finished in 36th place overall.

Both Fresno State cross country teams will travel to the Cal Poly Invitational next week where the men will compete in a 5K run and the men an 8K.
