This is familiar territory for women’s tennis head coach Simon Thibodeau and his team.

They’ve only been through it four times before. Yesterday, Fresno State started the WAC tournament beating the 8th-seeded Hawaii Warriors 4-0 and looks to continue to roll through the tourney to its fifth consecutive WAC championship. The Bulldogs headed into the tournament as the No. 1 seed.

The No. 1 tandem of Katharina Winterhalter and Lucia Sainz breezed through their doubles match against Hawaii’s Kana Aikawa and Jacqui Williams 8-0. Their overall record is now 33-8, earning them a No. 4 spot in the Fila ITA rankings earlier this week.

Fresno State will face the winner of the Nevada today at 3:30 p.m. The Wolf Pack beat Idaho 4-0 in the quarterfinals.

Second seeded Fresno State will face Idaho, the No. 7 seed today.

The Bulldogs entered the tournament with a 13-6 record with Jakub Cech leading the pack. His 13-4 record in dual matches and wins against three Top 25 opponents has earned him a No. 63 ranking.

Fresno State has another ranked player in No. 49 Sam Gibbs. He teams up with Sergio Modoc as the No. 1 doubles team.
