Fresno State athletic director Thomas Boeh has released the 2006 Fresno State football schedule, which includes six home games and five that will be nationally televised.

The most important change to fans will be the return of early afternoon games at Bulldog Stadium. The last three home games of the season will begin at 2 p.m. at Jim Sweeney Field.

The Bulldog football team will open the season against Nevada, the defending WAC co-champion, on Sept. 1 and is the first time Fresno State will open with a conference game.

The game will be a rematch of last season’s loss for the Bulldogs, in which the Wolf Pack won 38-35 in Reno.

The game will be carried live by ESPN2 at 7 p.m.

In addition to the opening game against Nevada, the Bulldogs will take on two non-conference opponents that played in bowl games last season — Oregon and Colorado State.

The Ducks will come to Bulldog Stadium on Sept. 9 and are coming off a 10-2 record and a No. 10 ranking in the polls at the end of last season. The Ducks last played in Fresno in 1996 when they defeated the Bulldogs 30-27 in overtime.

Fresno State’s two other non-conference games will be on the road. On Sept. 16 they will take on Washington at Husky Stadium.

The Bulldogs will also travel to LSU on Oct. 21 to take on last season’s No. 5 Tigers.

Fresno State’s homecoming game will be against Hawaii on Oct. 14.

The Bulldogs’ home schedule will close in mid-November with back to back WAC games against the conference’s two newest members, New Mexico State and Idaho.

The season will close with two road games at Louisiana Tech on Nov. 24 and against rival San Jose State on Dec. 2.

The Bulldogs have been nationally televised 41 times this decade, including 28 appearances on ESPN and ESPN2 and will be featured five times next season.
