CSU Alcohol policy misguided

Recently I read an article stating that the Chancellor of the California State University system has issued an executive order banning the sale and advertisement of alcoholic beverages at any intercollegiate athletic events at CSU owned or operated events.

Not only do the rules of the new order bother me but also the way in which the new rule was installed.

Chancellor Charles B. Reed signed Executive Order 966 on Friday, Dec. 23, 2005. It is no coincidence this occurred on this date as I believe he specifically waited until winter break in order to limit any resistance and hopefully install it with limited knowledge by those most affected.

At the very least a decision of this caliber should have been brought before students who were given a chance to hear both sides of the case. As it actually occurred there was not even a vote taken by anyone I am aware of.

California State University, Fresno will lose tremendous amounts of advertising dollars as well as money from the sale during games.

Alcohol has been a problem at particular sporting events on occasion, but I am convinced it is only such due to heavy consumption prior to the event as it would be far too costly thereby making moderation preferable to prohibition.

This will have major adverse affect on students and the university as a whole due to the loss of income generated by sales and advertisements!
