AS senator warns against burnout

Katie Yeffa is in a hurry. She anticipates receiving her degree and credential in four years, as much as two years early. She is also the Associated Students senator for the Kremen School of Education and Human Development.

A sophomore Liberal Studies major, she has a concentration in Music and hopes to use it in the classroom in conjunction with a teaching credential.

She is a member of the Activities Committee, the Campus Lecture Series Advisory Board and the Campus Fee Advisory Committee. A native of the Bay Area, she graduated from Foothill High School in Pleasanton, having served a leadership position in the Foothill High School Associated Students.

She has high hopes for her objectives and is willing to do as much as she can for students. “I don’t want to sit back when I’m older and wish I’d done more.” An officer for the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity, she is also a returning Peach Blossom committee member, last year’s Public Relations representative. She also participates in the Fresno State Leadership Program.

Despite her obligations Yeffa believes she will be able to graduate early, but if she encounters difficulties, she is willing to make compromises. “Push yourself to the limits, but don’t push yourself so much you burn out."

Her primary goal in office is to create a more widespread awareness of AS and “the many opportunities and services” it can provide to the student body in addition to mending what she sees as “discrepancies in communication” between students, faculty, and administration.

She is working with other representatives on AS to create an Associated Students Marketing Team to this end and is careful to not let this distract her from her purpose. “You have to remember that the purpose is the students,” Yeffa said. “In the end, I’m here to meet the needs of the students."
