After seven straight victories for the Fresno State women’s basketball team, it’s almost as if they forgot how to lose.
Behind a career-high tying 24-point effort by the Bulldogs’ Amy Parrish, Fresno State eased its way to a 77–61 victory, defeating New Mexico State.
With the win, Fresno State (14–4, 6–0) is still undefeated in January and maintains first place in the Western Athletic Conference.
Fresno State outplayed the Aggies (5–12, 2–4) in nearly every category, out-rebounding the Aggies 41 to 30 while forcing New Mexico State into 27 turnovers.
The Bulldogs maintained a healthy lead throughout, ballooning it up to 20 points in the second half. Help for Parrish came by way of Chantella Perera, Mirenda Swearengin and Tierre Wilson. All three ladies reached double figures in points, while combining for 17 rebounds.
With only eight three-pointers attempted, Fresno State was able to finish the job from the inside of the three-point line in, including 19 of 25 from the free throw line.
Perhaps the most impressive stat for Fresno State is the one which they have accumulated throughout the season.
The 16-point difference in the score means the Bulldogs now have 10 double-digit victories on the year.
Continuing its road trip, Fresno State will now head to Louisiana to take on the Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech, a team it beat for the first time ever earlier this year.
This time however, the Bulldogs will not have the comfort of its own arena in the Save Mart Center.
Instead, the Bulldogs will have to put its first place hold at risk in a place they have never won before.
A loss for Fresno State would mean it would share first place with Louisiana Tech putting all the more on the line.
