Tonight the Wahlberg Recital Hall in the old Music Building will be transformed into a concert hall as undergraduate and graduate student composers and musicians share their semester’s work with a live audience.
The New Music Ensemble, directed by Kenneth Froelich, is dedicated to rehearsing and performing student compositions at Fresno State. Students have been working on these compositions throughout the semester in preparation for this event. Culminating a semester of hard work, this is an opportunity for performers and composers in the music department to collaborate, receive feedback from each other and perform.
A wide range of musical styles will appear in tonight’s concert by student composers Josh Appleby, David Stewart, Adam Fernandez, Gregory Grant, Mathew Gomes, Ryan Nyberg and Nathaniel Dahman. From experimental music to traditional music, show tunes, tonal and non-tonal music, the concert promises to have something the audience would enjoy.
This is the fourth year the Fresno State Music Department is presenting this event. Froelich said he is hoping for a large turnout of students and community members. He encouraged music students to attend the performance.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Froelich said. “I think it’s going to be a great event.”
Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the performance starts at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased in advance or one hour before show time at the Music Department Box Office or online at www.csufresno.edu/music. The price is $6 general admission or $5 for faculty, staff, students and seniors.
