Being the No. 5 seed heading into last weekend’s WAC tourney didn’t faze them at all. After all, the Bulldogs had beaten the conference-leading Hawaii Warriors. Despite a 7-9-2 record, the Bulldogs fought an uphill battle and was victorious winning the WAC championship and an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

First, the team beat No. 4 Utah State 2-1 on a Kortney Lewis goal. Antonea Lugo scored two goals against No. 1 Hawaii on its way to a 2-1 victory. Then the Bulldogs beat No. 2 San Jose State 1-0 thanks to Corney Sobrero.

The trip to the NCAAs will be the second one in the program’s history and the first since 1999.

On top of the team’s championship title, five players were named to the all-tournament team. Lewis was named the MVP and she was joined on the list by offensive players Sobrero, Lugo, defender Rochelle Jagdeo and goalkeeper Angie Larsen. The shutout in the final game against the Spartans was Larsen’s seventh of the season.

The Bulldogs have four practices before the tournaments starts Friday.
