3 former 'Dogs hit pro turf

Three former Fresno State quarterbacks lined up behind center Sunday in the NFL.

Billy Volek (2000) joined usual starters David Carr (2002) and Trent Dilfer (1994) as the three combined for 319 passing yards and two touchdowns.

The trio was also sacked a combined 12 times and turned the ball over seven times.

Volek, of the Tennessee Titans (2-5), started for the first time this season, filling in for an injured Steve McNair on the road against Arizona.

Volek went 18 for 32 with 198 passing yards. He threw one touchdown pass, one interception and lost a fumble as the Titans fell to the Cardinals 20-10.

Carr’s Houston Texans (0-6) lost at home to undefeated Indianapolis 38-20. He went six for nine with 48 yards passing and threw one touchdown and one interception.

Carr also fumbled three times, turning one over, and he was sacked five times, bringing his league-leading season total up to 35.

Dilfer, with the Cleveland Browns (2-4), lost at home against Detroit 13-10. He went 10 for 19 with 73 passing yards and the Lions sacked him four times and intercepted him thrice.

Dilfer won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2001.

Carr was the NFL’s number one draft pick in 2002.
