Women’s Soccer has tough weekend


After falling 3-1 to Pacific on Friday, the Bulldogs got shutout by No. 21 Cal Poly 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.


Fresno State has now dropped four in a row, falling to 1-5-0.


Fresno State held a 12-9 edge in shot attempts but the Mustangs made the best of their tries, scoring all three of their goals in the second half. Junior Cortney Sobrero led all players with four shots, including two on goal. Senior Koleen Anderson and junior Antonea Lugo added two shots apiece.


Fresno State travels to Las Vegas for the UNLV Adidas Classic next weekend and will take on UNLV to begin tournament play on Friday at 7 p.m.


Cross Country captures CSU Stansilaus title


With six runners cracking the school’s all-time 6K list, the Bulldogs earned their first invitational title since 2003.


Junior Andrea Buckner was the top individual finisher in 22:30, just 27 seconds off her career-best 6K mark.


Junior Zinzi Evans and freshman Roxanne Sellick finished third and fourth, respectively. Evans ran a personal best at the meet.


Up next for the Bulldogs is the Stanford Invitational Sept. 24.


Volleyball puts up fight against No. 15 Arizona


In the Santa Clara Invitational finale, the Bulldogs took their third ranked opponent in as many days, No. 15 Arizona, to four games but the Wildcats prevailed in the end. Two veterans led the team with double-doubles. Seniors Robyn Kuene had 10 digs and 51 assists and La’akea Campbell had 13 digs and 11 kills.


The Bulldogs fall to 2-5 and will face Pacific in Stockton on Wednesday before returning for their home opener against Oregon on Friday in the North Gym and again on Saturday at the Save Mart Center.
